Dive schools
Have you been diving for long? yes then you have definately seen the decline in Dive Centres in the UK, Most of us know of a Dive Centre closing down and usually they are missed by all of us. Why did they close? they didn't make enough money to pay the bills thats why.
So what...
I hear a lot of people say. Dive Centres and Clubs are what keeps the buzz going and the industry ticking, getting divers together and spreading the word to aquire new divers to join us in our underwater world.
Dive shows...
A definate decline over the years of the number of companies displaying their wares and even the regulars have down sized their stands. I remember when the Dive Show in Birmingham spread across several halls
FREE AIR! wow I wish....
In most Dive Centres air is a loss leader meaning it actually costs the operation more than you pay to have your cylinder filled. Compressor Servicing/maintenance is an expensive game. With 5L oil costing £100+, filter stacks, Valves, lines, bank cylinders, flow panels, air purity tests and to top it off the extortionate insurance costs to cover anything that does go wrong. If you think its expensive to maintain your personal gear just think how much it takes to keep the Dive Centre equipment in servicable condition and meet HSE guidelines and BS/ISO standard
So what if another dive centre closes down...
If you want to try equipment before you buy where do you go? If you want a reputable air fill where do you go? If you want to plan a trip on a liveaboard who can arrange it for you? If you need your regulators serviced by a fully insured technician where do you go?, If you need your cylinder testing where do you go? Where can you go to meet up with like minded people and have a good time or just pop in for a cuppa? Yes... your local Dive Centre.
Experience....
Experience is something you can't buy, it comes with time so everyone has a time in their lives where inexperience in diving is a problem. You can get help from friends and family if they are divers. but what was good for them may not be the best thing for you as not all people want the same thing or built the same shape, a mask for instance is probably your most important purchase as a leaky, ill fitting mask can destroy an otherwise good dive because you feel uncomfortable throughout the whole time underwater.
A good Dive Centre will show you a range of masks, the pro's & con's, the price ranges and most of all how to correctly try it on for size to ensure it is as good a fit as possible.
This goes for not just masks but for a whole range of diving equipment and courses to get you that all important experience for yourself.
So What Can You Do?....
Pop in to your local dive centre or club and get your name down on their contact list to inform you when they are going diving next or having their next social evening (It's not all about getting wet), Although tempting remember not all things on Ebay are a bargain, when you look at the delivery charge and getting it into serviceable condition, thats even if it is serviceable. You may have paid good money for a item thats not fit for purpose and only worth its weight in scrap. Something to maybe think about, as it's a lot more difficult to return a faulty item to an Ebay seller.
Please support your dive local Dive Centre, They are there to support the industry and YOU — at Wavecrest Scuba.

600
Wow!! 600 courses taught today!! I'm so proud of where I have got to after all these years, nearly 10 years as an instructor I still love getting into the water everyday and seeing the look on people's faces.
I have progressed from Open Water Scuba Instructor, Master Scuba Diver Trainer, IDC Staff Instructor and now Master Instructor heading my way hopefully to Course Director in the ne,t year or so.......
I can't get over how many people I have taught, how much training I have put into my own personal development and how proud I am of being the owner/founder and Senior Instructor of the ONLY 5 Star IDC Resort in the Southwest of England......
My friends have been great support as well as my family and I now have the most incredible team of Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and Instructors working with me, we all work really well together and it's nice to have them

Open water
Really nice couple of dives today at Swanpool for James's PADI Open Water diver course, great skills although holding your nose to equalize when trying to do a mask clear is a new one on me...... The guys at Elemental UK allowed us to use their rib dingy for some extra diver training, rolling off a rib is always good training for a new diver.......good skills to, no problem with regulator recovery, alternate air source or fin pivot, looking forward to finishing the course tomorrow and starting your Advanced next week
Sunday, 6 July 2014

Monday, 16 June 2014
Compressor
We at last our new compressor has Been ordered!! Great compressor that will allow us to fill up to 300 bar, we will be one of only a few places in Cornwall that can fill to that pressure.... We have decided to have a brand new panel made with 4 charging whips at 232 bar and one off the compreasor that will be a 300 bar whip, we have decided to have a sensor fitted to monitor air quality and 2 filters allowing us to make nitrox at a latter date.... The spectrum analasyis that we are having done for our air quality is not like any other school in Cornwall so our air will be of the best quality, the spectrum analysis is done in a lab with visual spectrum analysis being far more accurate than the old tube test....

Plastic Oceans
Just been for a walk down to Porth headland here in Newquay and after passing a huge area that has collapsed after the recent storms I looked down into the water to see a massive piece of discarded fishing net! How wrong is it to let this keep fishing long after the boat has gone! Unfortunately I wasn't able to recover it!!...........

Atomic Regulators
We sell them and heres a little review of some of the Atomic regilators....
The Best Regulators Ever Designed
How materials and passion come together for perfect dives
At Atomic we sometimes feel like a symphony conductor – bringing together exotic materials, groundbreaking design, and superior manufacturing in perfect harmony. The result is our signature line of regulators that are widely considered the finest ever designed by independent reviewers and passionate divers across the globe. So how do we do it? There are no real secrets here...we are an open book and want you to see for yourself why Atomic regulators are the finest ever to submerge. No other company has the courage or determination to put all these elements together as we have. Take a look...
“Compromise” Is A Word We Don’t Know
Titanium is uncompromising...and nobody uses it like Atomic
There is simply no better material for the ocean environment than Titanium. A Titanium regulator part could actually survive beneath the sea for centuries without a trace of corrosion. Atomic heavily invested in the people, machinery and time needed to develop new fabrication techniques at our own USA R&D facilities. If you see other companies claiming “Titanium” regulators, closely investigate. They do not employ these materials as thoroughly or effectively as Atomic Aquatics. You will see on the following pages exactly which parts in every Atomic regulator are machined from Titanium and why they excel.
Atomic wins the regulator trifecta:
natural performance – low maintenance – stunning appearance
The ultimate test of any regulator is how it breathes. Atomic Aquatics designed “natural breathing” into every regulator model, regardless of materials or price. Just because we design a regulator using different materials to achieve a lower price-point, does not mean we compromise on performance. Every review or independent test an Atomic regulator has been involved in has concluded with a top ranking. Superior performance is inherent in every Atomic model at any dive depth or breathing rate. Our use of corrosion-resistant materials also results in much lower maintenance requirements for divers. We stand behind this claim with our 2-Year/300 Dive Warranty (see details on pages 10-11). Finally, beautiful appearance is an Atomic imperative. Every time you pull your Atomic reg from its bag, you will be proud of its technologically-superb appearance...and other divers may take an envious glance. Our plating processes and machine-turned finishes produce an immediately recognizable distinction.
